Starts Saturday, October 15

Tampa, FL

Official Website

Description

It’s a runner’s opportunity of a lifetime! Saturday, October 15, 2016, IT WILL BE HERE. In carefully planned and executed cooperation with the City of Tampa and The City of Clearwater, Xanadu Race Management presents “The Tampa Bay Whiskey Run 5K and 10K!” This inaugural event is limited to a FINITE 450 participants who will get the opportunity to become the first finisher’s in an organized race where you will run/walk in one of the world’s only opportunities to participate at a venue with water on both sides in beautiful Tampa Bay. This event will showcase two great counties and two great cities that are connected now not only with a causeway but with one of the most desirable fitness trails in the world.

From local Tampa Bay health enthusiasts to people who have visited Tampa Bay from all over the world, we’ve all been watching the beautiful fitness trail develop and become a huge asset to the community known as The Courtney Campbell Trail. Many of us have dreamed about participating in an organized run/walk where we could earn the first finisher’s medal associated with the world’s newest event executed entirely OVER WATER!

This well prepared and professionally organized run will be handled in a delicate “share the trail” format as we execute our run/walk with great respect to the patrons who might use the trail daily or even by chance happen to be joining us on their vacation the morning of October 15, 2016.

The 5K is limited to 100 participants online at Active.com and will begin just after 8 am. The 10K is limited to 350 participants at 8 am. All participants are asked to plan to be PARKED no later than 7 am. The morning moves fast, we have a finite amount of registrants, and you will need to be on site in a timely manner in order to precede to your start corrals. All distances are an out and back course on the trail which is completely paved. Due to the narrowing areas of the trail we cannot allow baby strollers or pets. If you are a participant who requires a special device please contact race management so that we start you in the perfect wave to suit your needs.

The Tampa Bay Whiskey Run 5K and 10K courses each begin and end from Whiskey Joe’s and take place entirely within the City of Tampa.

Runners will be released in waves by the order of your bib number and your start and finish time will be recorded, however, to protect the integrity of not overcrowding the trail, there will be NO chip timing or start/finish line mats on the trail. Times will be posted Sunday, October 16, 2015 online and emailed to each participant as well. There will water at each of the aid stations responsibly placed along the course for your comfort.

Please ALWAYS keep in mind that the temperature in Florida can fluctuate drastically so it is always the responsibility of the participant to make sure you arrive fully hydrated, start ONLY the distance that the date and temperate suit for your level of training and NEVER depend on volunteers or race management to meet all of your hydration needs (though we DO our best and rarely fail you) we also have EMS units on site in case of severe emergency.

A Special fundraising category has been added to benefit Shriners Hospitals for Children – Tampa. This offer is open to the public to the first 50 registrants to take advantage of the opportunity of the half marathon fundraising division only.   At 7 am October 15, 2016, we will send off the first 2 waves of runners in the Shriner’s 50 person half marathon.

WELCOME TO THE CLEARWATER side of the Courtney Campbell Trail for you distance runners who LOVE to fundraise! In order to work with both Tampa and Clearwater on the launch of this very important event, Xanadu Race Management has invited the Shriners to be the SOLE BENEFACTOR of an EXCLUSIVE (50 participants ONLY) 13.1 mile distance run where participants will both register and raise funds in order to participate in the Shriner’s half marathon distance.

This small and awesome group of runners/fundraisers will provide us with the opportunity to work together with both cities so that we can perfect our event communication and logistics. Therefore, the Shriner’s Half Marathon at The Tampa Bay Whiskey Run will be a “fundraising” category in 2016.

What does that mean? At a very responsible round table we agreed on a fair amount that each of you can take time to gather from your own sponsors, friends, and personal donors (or entirely on your own). For each half marathon finisher an additional medal will go to a child at Shriners Hospital in Tampa. Therefore, your half marathon online registration fee covers all of your race expenses, however, your registration is ONLY valid once you mail in an additional $250 (entirely tax deductible donation) paid directly to Shriners Hospitals for Children 501c(3). Again, separate from your online registration fee, you can accumulate the funds all the way up to our fundraising deadline in September of 2016

Once we receive your check(s) totaling $250 OR MORE you will receive an email validation THAT YOU HAVE SECURED one of the 50 spots to participate in the half marathon distance. All checks will be made payable to Shriners Hospitals for Children and specific information will be emailed to you as soon as your online registration comes through. The half marathon participants will receive exclusive parking inside the Whiskey Joe’s parking lot right next to the start finish line. Wave one of the half marathon will begin at 7 a.m. with the first 25 (most competitive) participants who plan to complete the 13.1 miles in under 2 hours. Wave 2 (second wave of total of 50 participants) of the half marathon will begin at 7:15 a.m. There is a cut off time of 3 hours. The turnaround is of course on the trail and lands on the City of Clearwater side of the Courtney Campbell Trail. All finisher’s receive the Whiskey Run substantial and sizable finisher’s medal and special glass framed awards from Shriners.

Event details and schedule

Parking: 10K registrants will all be sent instructions and the specific address to park free of charge in the Shriners International Headquarters parking garage just off Courtney Campbell Causeway. Each registrant will be emailed a parking pass that you must print on your own where you will include your last name and bib number so that you will be granted access to park at the Shriner’s garage no earlier than 6 am. This will give you plenty of time to use the trail to walk over to the Whiskey Joe’s property for your 8 am race start.

5K participants (or anyone without a bib number assigned parking pass on your dash) will need to use the pay stations inside Ben T. Davis beach prior to 8 am race morning. Race management is not allowing ANY parking across from the venue so ALL participants must be parked on the south side of Courtney Campbell Causeway for your safety and the safety of the race.

Registration: All race registration will be gathered online through Active.com (no exceptions) we have reserved 350 spaces for the 10K and 100 for the 5K. There will be no penalty to switch DOWN in distance on race day as all goodies are the same in each package and we want you all to have a safe and fun day.

Timing: In cooperation with The City of Tampa all are in agreement that no chip timing will be used on The Courtney Campbell Trail. Therefore, runners will be responsibly sent off in waves and your finish time will be gathered with an “overall” start time clock. For instance if the first wave (sorted by bib number) is sent off at 8 am and your corralled wave takes of 18 minutes later, we will offset your time by 18 minutes when you finish at Whiskey Joe’s.

THE FUN! The Whiskey Joe’s post race party opens at 9 a.m. with live music for the greatest celebration in running. You each will have completed one of the ONLY “water on both sides” organized running events in the world! If you’ve been a fan of the Florida Key’s 7 mile bridge run, THEN welcome to Tampa Bay as 500 finisher’s will receive the same The Tampa Bay Whiskey Run finisher’s medal with large neck ribbon and the October 15, 2016, date of our Inaugural Run. Special awards will be presented to our Shriner’s Half Marathon participants. The top 10 males and top 10 females of both the 5K and 10K will be called on stage. No other top finisher’s or age group awards will be presented as this is a very unique and non-competitive approach to our launch of this great use of one of the most prized trails in the world.

For further questions regarding the run please text Suzanne at 727-CAN-RACE so that you can initiate a conversation that answer’s all of your questions. Good luck and we hope to see all 500 of you on Saturday, October 15, 2016, For the Tampa Bay Whiskey Run
