Description

Description

Join us on Saturday, June 14th at 10:30 a.m. at Historic Oak View for a walking tour focused on the history of Juneteenth and how the transition from slavery to freedom was experienced by Oak View's enslaved community. Discover stories of how African American families celebrated their liberation and the steps they took to plant seeds of freedom for themselves and their descendants. After the tour, participants will be invited to fold their own wildflower seed packet and reflect on what freedom means to them. Free and open to all, recommended for ages 4th grade and up. Registration is required for all participants.

We will run the program rain or shine, so please come prepared with weather appropriate clothing. The tour will take place primarily outdoors and in non-climate controlled historic buildings, and includes standing and walking between buildings on paved brick paths.

Upon arrival, participants should check in with park staff in the Farm History Center (our visitors center building). Please let us know in advance if you or anyone in your group requires ADA accommodations. As a courtesy to other participants, the waitlist and the instructor, if you find you have a change in plans and can no longer attend, please email [email protected] or call 919-250-1013.
