Why the Tulip?
The tulip has been a recognized symbol of Parkinson’s disease since the 9th World Parkinson’s Disease Day Conference in 2005. However, its connection to the disease dates back even further—to 1980, when Dutch horticulturist J.W.S. Van der Wereld, who had Parkinson’s, developed a red and white tulip. He named it the Dr. James Parkinson tulip in honor of the physician who first described the disease in 1817.
