The 25th Annual L.A. Cancer Challenge 5K Walk/Run, one of Southern California’s longest running fitness fundraisers has opened registration for in-person and virtual walkers and runners. Championing the fight to advance pancreatic cancer research since 1998, the L.A. Cancer Challenge is the signature fundraiser for the Hirshberg Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research, a nonprofit organization dedicated to performing key research at its UCLA laboratories. To kick off the Halloween season, in-person and virtual walkers and runners will be dressed in festive costumes to show unity for finding a cure for pancreatic cancer which has the highest mortality rate of all major cancers and is the third leading cause of cancer-related death in the United States surpassing breast cancer.
Virtual participants are invited to personalize a local fundraiser by rallying family and friends to walk or run the 5K throughout their community.
Proceeds from the L.A. Cancer Challenge will benefit the Hirshberg Foundation’s philanthropic efforts to advancing pancreatic cancer research and providing information, resources and support to pancreatic cancer patients and their families. The L.A. Cancer Challenge has raised more than $9.6 million for pancreatic cancer research and has established the UCLA Agi Hirshberg Center for Pancreatic Diseases whose pancreatic cancer survival rates are among the best nationwide by administering comprehensive expert care.
A Fit Family Expo will feature a wide variety of Los Angeles’ top vendors, Halloween festivities and activity tents, course entertainment and more. The L.A. Cancer Challenge will be offering kids of all ages a magical and whimsical experience with the Candyland Kids Zone with life-size décor including colorful lollipops and gum drops as well as fun Halloween activities including a Candyland Moonbounce, face painting and arts and crafts. All those who cross the celebratory finish line can grab a donut from the giant Donut Wall. An Adult Costume Contest and Kids Costume Parade are additional Halloween activities.
