Official Website

Description

On April 24, 2021, William "Bill" Scott Jr., passed away suddenly. At the time of passing, Bill was the President of the Syracuse Teachers Association (STA) representing approximately 3,000 Syracuse City School District staff and 20,000 students. Prior to his presidency, Bill spent 10 years as a school social worker and 5 years as the 4th Vice President of STA. Throughout all the stages of his career, Bill worked tirelessly to advocate for his colleagues, students, and their families and he was a fierce advocate for all! Last year, we hosted our inaugural Bill Scott Memorial 5K Walk/Run. The monies raised were put towards a scholarship for a Syracuse City School District senior who planned to major in Social Work or the Human Service Profession. This recipient graduated from Corcoran High School in June and is majoring in psychology at Syracuse University.

We will continue honoring Bill's memory and legacy by hosting our second annual race on Sunday, April 14, 2024 at 9 AM. Our race will be held in Burnet Park, a place where Bill frequented for his own running. Finally, the money raised will again go towards a scholarship for another Syracuse City School District senior pursing a degree in Psychology or Human Services.

Prizes will be awarded to the top three overall female and male finishers.

Packet pickup will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2024 from 10 AM - 1 PM at Fleet Feet.
