The Sam Lapidus Montclair Run

Thursday November 23rd, 2023

Birmingham, AL

Official Website

Description

It’s time to lace up your running shoes for the 47th annual Sam Lapidus Montclair Run. The SLMR started in 1976 as the Montclair Run and quickly grew in popularity throughout the state.

In 2009 the run was renamed to honor Sam Lapidus, who lost his battle with Ewing’s Sarcoma, a form of childhood cancer, in November 2008 — just nine days before his 15th birthday. Five dollars of every runner’s registration is donated in Sam’s memory to the Alabama Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood disorders at Children’s of Alabama.

To date, the LJCC has donated more than $10,000 to the organization.

Now hosting approximately 1,500 runners of all ages, the SLMR serves as a Thanksgiving Tradition for many Families and out-of-town visitors.

Team Awards
We will have awards for our friends who come in costume as well as the team that brings in the most fundraising dollars.

  • Best-dressed

  • Highest fundraiser for the Alabama Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders

  • Highest fundraiser for the Levite Jewish Community Center

  • Largest race team

Through this race, we offer two options for individuals to fundraise, and we hope you will help us make the biggest impact possible. During the registration process, you will have the opportunity to create a personal fundraising page. Your fundraising page can either support the LJCC or the Alabama Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders. The choice is yours!

Join a Team

You will have the opportunity to create a team during the registration process. Creating a team is the perfect way to increase your impact. Show your team spirit by rounding up your coworkers, friends, and/or family and running together. Have friends who want to help but don’t want to run? That's ok, because your team will also have the opportunity to fundraise. Don’t forget the costumes! The team with the most spirit will take home the “best-dressed” trophy.

About the Levite Jewish Community Center

The Levite Jewish Community Center prides itself on being a welcoming facility to people of all faiths, ages, genders, sexual identities, and socioeconomic backgrounds. We are a family-oriented recreational and educational facility that is open to the entire community. As a recipient of Birmingham Jewish Federation and United Way dollars, we impact thousands of Birmingham residents annually.

The LJCC is home to a large fitness center that includes free weights, Cybex machines, and cardio equipment. We also offer dozens of group fitness classes weekly, personal training, a five-mile hiking and biking trail, and indoor and outdoor pools plus a baby pool.

Alongside our fitness offerings, we also boast a respected early childhood program, summer and year-round camps, and a wide range of other activities and programs. Everything from Jewish programming to aquatics classes are available in our facility that is conveniently located on 70 wooded acres off Montclair Road.

With “Community” being our middle name, we take pride in being an active partner of both the Birmingham Jewish and broader Birmingham communities. We make it our responsibility to serve and enhance the community through our mission every day.
