Description

Start time: 9:00 AM

The Hilly Chantilly is a not-so-hilly, family friendly, chip timed 5K race that winds through the tree-lined residential streets of the Chantilly neighborhood, one of Charlotte’s oldest center-city neighborhoods (established 1913) nestled between Plaza Midwood and Elizabeth. The course features gentle, rolling hills that meander through the neighborhood – crossing no major thoroughfares – beginning and ending in Chantilly Park at 222 Wyanoke Avenue. The race benefits the Chantilly Neighborhood Association, dedicated to working with residents and other center-city neighborhoods on preserving natural beauty in the city with sustainable urban living.

Course Description
This chip timed 5K race begins and ends in Chantilly Park. Despite the moniker, total elevation gain for the entire course is approximately 115 ft. Starting in Chantilly Park, runners will encounter their first hill heading up Wyanoke Avenue before making a right turn on Bascom St. and a left turn onto Laburnum Ave. Runners will then make a right on Saint Julien St., and another quick right onto Bay St. to enjoy a nice downhill section. As runners begin to really hit their stride, the race makes a left on Hanover and another left onto Chesterfield Ave. for the longest uphill section of the course. A quick turn onto Plaza followed by a right turn onto Shenandoah Ave. brings you to the longest, fastest downhill section of the day. A right turn on Lorna takes runners on a winding southward path including the Lorna Loop. Lorna Loop terminates on Kingsbury Drive – three successive left turns take runners from Kingsbury to Bascom St. to Wyanoke Ave. for a fast downhill sprint finish in Chantilly Park.
