The Silver Comet Half and Full on October 30, 2021 is Covid-altered... not cancelled, and not virtual unless that is the option YOU choose, - offering minimal amenities for those that would like to run the course time trial style for an official qualifier time on race day  Please visit our website for more information. A fast and flat Boston Qualifier! The 21st Annual Silver Comet Half and 10th Annual Silver Comet Full Marathon is October 30, 2021 at 7:30am. USAT&F Certified Courses #GA12125WC and #GA12126WC.

Following is all the information you need for this year's event.  We thank each of you for your support and following is clarification, FAQ, and hopefully good news to each of you about our races on the 30th!! This is a long read, but please read the entire before emailing questions. We’ve tried to include answers to all questions we have received to date.

Questions? Let’s clear those up! Please read to the end!

1. Refunds/Deferrals: No refunds or deferrals as stated in registration waiver.  Active.com does offer registration  insurance at the time of registration. 

2. Race Day Registration: No race day registration. Online registration will close Tuesday October 26, 2020 at 11:59pm. 

3. Shirts/Medals: Shirts and medals for each participant of the Half and Full Marathon, whether in-person or virtual!  5k and 10k virtual participants will receive “upcycled” swag from previous years.

4. Police: VERY IMPORTANT! As we have done for our last two events - There will be no police for road closure or trail + road intersection closing. Participants MUST stay on the sidewalk for the first 1.5 miles down to the trail and obey all traffic crossings on Floyd Road, and on the trail. You are responsible for running the course as you would if you were on one of your normal runs and of course if you were running virtually. There will be an additional waiver for participants to sign stating they understand and assume any and all risks! 

5. Timing: Participants who run the official course on October 30th will have a time trial start.  There will NOT be an official mass start or start time. The start timing mat will be set up from 7:30am to 8:10am for participants to cross one at a time. The “start line” timing mat will be directly across the street from the Mable House Amphiteatre - 5239 Floyd Road SW, Mableton - on the Trail extension / Sidewalk in front of the Mableton Post Office.  There will just be a volunteer with the start mat who will record your race number as you cross. The Mable House Amphitheatre is closed, no one else will be there.  All participants who want an official time will have to cross the start line timing mat during this strict time window. There will also be a finish line timing mat. 

6. Results and Boston Qualification: YES, if you run the official course during the specified time, you CAN use your time for Boston Qualification. Each participant will need to send Garmin (or other GPS data) to us, for BQ verification and support. Results will be linked on our Website live.

7. Awards: Overall awards only (no age group awards this year) will be awarded to those who run the official course, based on chip time.

8. Packet Pick Up: We will offer Packet pickup Wed Oct 27 and Thur Oct 28 from 4:00 to 7:00pm at Comet Trail Cycles  4342 Floyd Road Mableton (race finish loaction) for all virtual & in-person participants. Packets will include a shirt, medal and other fun goodies!  Race numbers will be distributed to official course runners only. Masks required to pick up your swag. 

9. Parking/ Shuttles: Parking is available in the CCT Lot behind the mable house Art Center Only. No parking is allowed at the Silver Comet Trailhead / Finish line as the trail is open for public use. Shuttles will not be available between the start and finish line location.

10. Course Marking: Please look at the course maps and make sure you are familiar with the general routes. Courses will be marked with Chalk spray paint - a comet with mileage - on the right hand side ON the trail.

1. Water Stops: We have our awesome SCHS soccer coaches volunteering for each water stop from  7:45am to 12:45pm. Please prepare to carry your own electrolytes and supplements - we will not offer gels/snacks or gatorade on the courses due to Covid protocols.

2. Shuttles/Porta-potties: No shuttles will be offered. The trailhead facilities are open and available for use. The trailheads are marked on the course map.

3. Photographer: Photographers will be at marathon turn-arounds, as usual, and a finish line photographer in the works! PLEASE take selfies and photos, and send them to us, since you may be running all over!  All photos will be available to all participants in a google drive!

4. Spectators: You can direct your spectators as you so choose. Spectators will not be allowed to congregate at the finish line.

We look forward to sharing the amazing Silver Comet Trail and properly celebrating the 21st  Silver Comet Half Marathon and 10th Silver Comet Marathon with YOU! sorry things aren’t normal, but we want everyone to be safe, healthy, and to get your run & walk on!
