Run For Wellness 5K

Saturday August 8th, 2020

Charlotte, NC

Official Website

Description

The mission of Promise Resource Network is to use the wisdom of lived recovery experience, to ignite social change, inspire hope, and serve as a catalyst for personal greatness. PRN’s vision is that every person will find the hope, inspiration and support to move through challenges, discover their strengths, live their dreams and find meaningful purpose in their lives.

The Run for Wellness 5K was designed to bring the Charlotte community together. Due to the pandemic, our 1st ever 5K that took place last year, became a virtual run/walk. This year we are SO excited to hold this event IN PERSON. We will have COVID-19 safety precautions, and the run can be done virtually as well.

Our hope is that this can be an opportunity for our community to get together, run or walk, and enjoy the day and company! Keep an eye out for fun videos, Facebook live sessions, and more! We hope you'll join us on August 7th and look forward to celebrating wellness together!

Top 3 Overall (Male and Female). Award ceremony will begin at 9:30am

About PRN

Who We Are

Promise Resource Network (PRN) is a grassroots non-profit that is boldly committed to recovery, wellness and healing from trauma, mental health, substance use, homelessness, poverty and incarceration.  As an agency that is operated and staffed by survivors of similar experiences, PRN offers opportunities for people that are uninsured to find their voice, grow resilience, and recover from significant emotional distress.

Why We Do It

Mental health, trauma and substance use issues effects every one of us in different ways.  People must be surrounded by examples, possibilities and opportunities for wellness if they are going to heal and reclaim their well-being.  PRN’s team knows how illness messages alters ones worldview, shatters hope and creates cycles of more illness.  This is why PRN is designed for resilience.

How We Do It

PRN supports individuals to reclaim meaning and purpose of their experiences by exploring their life through 8 Dimensions of Wellness (emotional, physical, spiritual, vocational, financial, social, intellectual, and environmental well-being).  We provide information, peer support, education, and access to resources in each of the dimensions.  In our commitment to building wellness-based alternatives, PRN assists in the start-up of organizations and initiatives that are operated by people in recovery, such as NC’s first recovery High School, Emerald School of Excellence.  Additionally, through Peer Voice NC, PRN is incubating and launching a statewide movement of people directly impacted by social justice issues, to lead efforts in policy, legislative and behavioral health system transformation.
