GREAT PERTHSHIRE TATTIE RUN!

Perth City Centre - Saturday 8th August 2020

Great Scottish Events in association with Perth & Kinross Council are offering something a little different on Saturday 8th August in Perth City Centre. 'The Great Perthsire Tattie Run!' It's a short distance race - approx. one mile, but there is a twist. Participants are expected to carry a bag of potatoes while running!

Men are asked to haul a 20kg bag (just over three stones in old money) and women 10kg at the 'Great Perthshire Tattie Run.' There are relay options (4 x 400 metres approx.) and anyone considering that option will face serious opposition from teams of army cadets, pub teams, gym members, shop staff, farmers and rugby teams.

The Great Scottish Tattie Run is sponsored by Branston, a leading supplier of fresh potatoes and the UK’s largest grower of organic potatoes with links to the Perthshire area. It is also supported by Perth & Kinross Council to offer free places in this fun event. There are medals for all participants in this event. However, the major prize is that you get to take home the potatoes, compliments of our sponsors Branston.

All leftover tatties will be distributed to charity, including Foodbanks, homeless shelters and lunch clubs for the elderly.

There is also a 'Spud and Spoon' race for kids or adults. The whole occasion is played for laughs so if you get along make sure to take lots of photos and catch the 'potato carriers' in the most ludicrous poses.

You can choose to use our event to fundraise for charity or your local group or just take part for good old fashioned fun!

The Great Perthshire Tattie Run is FREE to enter through support from Perth & Kinross Council and is part of Perth's Medieval Festival which includes lot's of other fabulous activities.

The final question for finishers is what to do with their 'Tattie' haul. Chips or roast potatoes are an obvious answer but might not fit in with a healthier lifestyle. Potato salad, cheese and leek bake or shepherd's pie might be better options.
