October 3-4, 2020 - Whitefish Legacy Partners is excited to introduce a weekend of running events on the Whitefish Trail!


Saturday's 50k Mountain Ultra, presented by Whitefish Credit Union, will start in Depot Park at the Great Northwest Oktoberfest, climb to the summit of Big Mountain via the Whitefish Trail in Haskill, and finish back at the Beirgarten in downtown Whitefish! Registration will be capped at 400 runners for the 50k Mountain Ultra.


Sunday's Half Marathon, 10k, 5k, and family-fun run, presented by Whitefish Therapy and Sport Center, will explore the Whitefish Trail in Beaver Lakes, starting and ending at the Whitefish Bike Retreat. The event is also made possible by event sponsor Hammer Nutrition. There is no cap for the Half Marathon, 10k+, 5k+, or Family Fun Run.


COVID-19 Guidelines

The COVID19 pandemic has caused us to develop an implementation plan to help decrease the spread of the virus for race participants, volunteers, and the community of Whitefish, MT. We will take steps to reduce crowding and congestion, and the proposed health plan for the event will be reviewed and approved by Flathead County Health Department in hopes of ensuring the health and safety of participants and volunteers.

A final decision regarding the race and possible cancellation will be made on or before September 1st based on guidance from Flathead County Health Department and the Montana Governor’s Office.

Covid-19 Cancellation/Refund Policy: In the event that Whitefish Legacy Partners cancels the Legacy Run due to the Covid-19 pandemic, registered runners will have the option to receive either 50% refund or registration deferment to 2021.

Some changes to the race that we are considering in order to reduce congestion and crowding at the start/finish, at aid-stations, and on the trail:



  • Within each race, provide wave start times to spread out runners on each course.

  • Increase staggered race start times to lessen crowding at start and finish.

  • Consider changing race courses to further decrease congestion and overlap.

  • Cap registration for each race to allow for appropriate management of participants.

  • Reduce and/or move aid stations to lessen congestion and overcrowding. For example, the 5k may not have an aid station, the 10k may have just 1 aid station, and the half marathon may have only two aid stations. The 50k aid stations are not anticipated to need to change.

  • Cancel the Family Fun Run.

  • All snacks and food provided will be grab and go.


Additional guidelines and/or protocols may be added prior to race day. We will communicate via email and on our Facebook page.


Guidelines:


Pre-Travel
If anyone has any COVID19 related symptoms please stay home: fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/symptoms-testing/symptoms.html).


Pre and Post Race – Whitefish, MT
All visitors and spectators (including runners, crew, runner family and friends) should wear face coverings and maintain social distancing while in public places in Whitefish, MT.


Pre-Race



  • All runners may have their temperature checked at packet pick-up (runners with fever, will not be able to run. All with fevers will be encouraged to travel home).

  • Cloth race buff (neck gaiter) will be provided to all runners at packet pick-up and can be used as a face covering during the race.

  • We will not offer a parking shuttle to Saturday’s race start line, so arrive early and give yourself time to walk the ¼ mile driveway.

  • Everyone is expected to wear face coverings at packet pick up and at the pre-race meeting


Start Line
All spectators and runners must wear face covering at the start lines. Race start times may be changed in order to spread out runners on the course. Final start times will be communicated to runners via email and at packet pick up.


On the Trail



  • All runners are expected to wear face coverings from the start until enough distance between runners is established (6-10 feet).

  • We encourage runners to be as self-sufficient as possible to lessen interactions at aid-stations.

  • Runners should communicate when interacting on the trail. While runners are passing each other on the trail, they should communicate to maintain distancing (step off trail) or to put on face coverings.


Aid Stations



  • Runners that are filling bottles and eating food must sanitize hands and wear face covering before entering each aid station. Hand sanitizer will be supplied.

  • Runners who do not need to fill bottles, eat food, or perform any other stop in the aid station should run through without having to sanitize hands.

  • Aid station volunteers will not touch your bottles, hydration packs, or trash. Runners are not allowed to touch water dispensers. A volunteer will dispense the liquid as you place the container below the spigot.

  • All aid station food will be placed on the food table in self-serve paper containers. Take the ones you want and exit. Dispose of the container in the trash.

  • All volunteers will adhere to special guidelines to protect themselves and runners (e.g. regular disinfecting of surfaces, face coverings, gloves, distancing, etc.).


Finish Line



  • All runners wear face covering after crossing the finish line.

  • All visitors wear face coverings in the finish area (the food line, when communicating with race personnel, etc.) and maintain distancing when possible.

  • All participants must wash and sanitize hands before entering the food area.

  • Food and drinks will be grab and go only.

  • Post-race celebration may be scaled down or eliminated.


NOTE ON FACE COVERINGS:  buff/neck gaiter-like coverings would be ideal for runners during the race because when not being used, they can hang around necks or around wrists for easy access.  Face coverings do not need to be medical type coverings; cloth ones are recommended for runners.
