The 19th annual event is on, but there are some significant changes because of the state's Corona Virus guidelines.
Most importantly, all registrations must be done in advance, either online or by mail, by Saturday, July 18. We cannot permit race-day registrations.
Runners do not have to wear masks. Volunteers are to wear masks when interacting with participants before and after the event, but are not required to wear masks while the race is under way.
Water cannot be dispensed in open cups. Instead, small capped bottles will be available at the water station. Bottles of water also will be available after the race.
There will be trophies for 1st Place male and female finishers in all age groups. There will not be an awards ceremony. If you are a first-place finisher in your age group, simply take your trophy from the table after results are posted.
Hot dogs will be served after the race. This is allowed because they will be cooked and served by a professional caterer.
There will not be a Kids Race this year.
If you want to participate but do not want to attend the event, you can enter our "Virtual Race." Register here or by mail, run 3.1 miles at a location of your choosing, and report your time to [email protected] by noon on race-day. Virtual participants are not eligible for awards, but will be listed among "Virtual Finishers." Virtual participants can pick up a complimentary T-shirt from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 24, at the Presbyterian Church of Prospect, or have their shirt mailed to them for an extra $8.
All procedes help the Prospect Area Preservation Society. The 5k course passes the boyhoold home of baseball hall-of-famer Rube Waddell.
