About This Race
The Stars Stripes Spirit 5K is a walk or run around Gray's Lake Park in Des Moines, Iowa held on Armed Forces Day to honor veterans and military personnel. The event brings public awareness to the mental and physical health of veterans and delivers resources and support to them. Participants can run competitively or walk leisurely, and a Most Patriotic runner prize is awarded for costumes. It is a community service program sponsored by The American Legion, Department of Iowa.
