About This Race
The Detroit Free Press Marathon 5K is a fun run/walk along the Detroit Riverfront, starting near The Detroit Riverfront Conservancy at 1325 Atwater Street, welcoming participants of all ages and abilities as part of the broader marathon weekend. The event uses a two-wave format with runners starting at 8:50 AM and walkers beginning five minutes later. The 5K is part of one of the most celebrated marathon weekends in the Midwest, which also features an iconic international half marathon crossing into Canada.
