About This Race
A community 5K celebrating 50 years of Fleet Feet and Global Running Day!
Celebrate five decades of running with Fleet Feet at The Big Run, presented by Brooks. Hosted by Fleet Feet Winston-Salem & Clemmons, this community 5K honors Global Running Day with summer vibes, shared memories, and the kind of runner's high that keeps you coming back. We're back at Ivey Redmon Park in Kernersville — and we can't wait to celebrate running with you. Let the good miles roll!
A huge thank you to Brooks Sports for generously sponsoring The Big Run nationwide, and to Fleet Feet Winston-Salem & Clemmons for bringing it home to the Triad.
The Course & Heats
You'll run (or walk!) a beautiful cross-country course at Ivey Redmon Park. The trail is well-groomed with excellent footing and wide - perfect for a 5K race! Because of the format of the race course, runners are divided into two heats:
Heat 1 — Expected finish time under 30 minutes. Choose this heat if you are a more competitive runner and can comfortably run a 5K in 30 minutes or faster.
Heat 2 — Expected finish time 25 minutes or over. Choose this heat if you are a less competitive runner or think you need more than 25 minutes to complete the 5K course.
WHY 2 HEATS AND WHICH SHOULD I CHOOSE?
The design of the course features several areas where runners double back over the same sections of trail. To prevent congestion and confusion, we run two heats to help us more effectively manage traffic on the course. This creates the best possible experience for runners and walkers of all types and paces.
If you anticipate needing between 25 and 30 minutes to complete the course, you can choose either heat. If you choose Heat 1, you will find yourself running toward the back of a faster field. If you choose Heat 2, you will be among the faster participants in the heat and running near the front of the field. There is no advantage or disadvantage to choosing Heat 1 or 2. Either way, times from both heats will be compiled and awards will be given based on the times from both heats.
After you cross the finish line, stick around for our post-race expo!
Giving Back
A portion of race proceeds will be donated to our Good Works Engine charity. Good Works Engine was formed in 2010 (formerly Mission: Feet First) and exists to aid the underprivileged. Through our charity we provide properly fitted shoes to local homeless, sheltered, and tent-city communities, as well as students in local low-income schools.
