About This Race
The Detroit Free Press Marathon Relay, part of the October 2026 Detroit Marathon Weekend, allows teams of 2-5 runners to collectively cover the full 26.2-mile marathon distance. Teams divide the course into five legs, with individual leg distances ranging from 2.5-9 miles, designed to accommodate runners of mixed abilities. The relay features multiple team categories including male, female, open, and masters divisions (age 40+). The event includes chip timing with awards for top-placed teams based on chip time, professional transportation between relay exchanges at Cadillac Square, and mandatory border documentation for the international leg (Leg 1) by September 9, 2026. All participants must be at least 14 years old on race day.

Race Weekend Logistics
Packet Pickup
International race participants (Marathon, International Half-Marathon, Marathon Relay Leg 1) must pick up in person at the Health and Fitness Expo on Friday or Saturday with proper travel documentation (passport or equivalent). Domestic race packets can be picked up by authorized representative.
