Son of a Sailor 20th Anniversary Run

Hess Lake Run 2025 offers a unique and scenic trail running experience nestled in wooded areas just south of Newaygo, approximately 40 minutes north of Grand Rapids. This challenging multi-distance event features three options: 5K Run/Walk and 10K starting at 8:00 AM, plus Half Marathon beginning at 7:00 AM. All courses touch the picturesque lakeshore drives of 755-acre Hess Lake, with the 5K covering one-third of the lakeshore, 10K completing one full loop around the lake, and half marathon doing two loops. Veteran runners appreciate the course's unique challenging hills and rolling terrain, while beginners enjoy the stunning scenery and many 'unplanned' water stops provided by friendly lakeshore residents. The rain-or-shine event showcases the transition from Central Michigan's flatter terrain to Western Michigan's beautiful rolling hills, creating an exhilarating experience through mature hardwoods, scenic creeks, and peaceful lake views.
