About This Race
The Battle of Stonington 5K is an annual evening race on August 19, 2025 commemorating the historic War of 1812 Battle of Stonington while supporting the Stonington Free Library in Connecticut. Organized by Kelleys Pace Race Series, founded by John Kelley (1957 Boston Marathon winner), this certified 5K course double loops through the historic Stonington Borough starting and finishing on Main Street adjacent to the library. The 6:15 PM start time makes this a unique twilight race through one of Connecticuts most charming historic coastal communities. Participants enjoy post-race festivities with free pizza from Woodfellas Wood Fired Pizza and Wings, plus food, drinks, and an awards ceremony. The race welcomes both runners and walkers, with a Kids Fun Run starting at 6:00 PM. Benefiting library programming and operations, this community event combines fitness with historical remembrance in the same borough where the original 1814 battle took place. Lead sponsor Dime Bank supports this effort to preserve local history and literacy. Packet pickup is available both pre-race at Kelleys Pace in Mystic and race day at the Stonington Free Library, making participation convenient for the southeastern Connecticut running community.
