About This Race
The Green Valley Lake 5K/10K/Half Marathon offers a breathtaking mountain running experience in the heart of the San Bernardino National Forest, between Running Springs and Big Bear. This challenging yet scenic course starts with a picturesque 3/4-mile out-and-back along the lake, then transitions from paved roads to forest service roads as runners climb 400 feet to a rewarding overlook at the 5K turnaround. The 10K and half marathon continue on rolling terrain along Forest Service Road 2N13, winding through pine forests with spectacular rocky vistas and mountain views.
Organized by veteran race director Caren Ware, a national champion athlete and USA Track & Field Level II Coach with over 20 years of timing expertise, this event combines world-class organization with hometown mountain community charm. The race features professional RFID chip timing by Itz About Time, comprehensive course support with water stations every 1.5 miles, and post-race festivities at the Community Garden featuring live music, food vendors, and awards ceremony. The event proudly supports The Children's Forest via the Southern California Mountains Foundation, empowering youth environmental stewardship and maintaining local trails. Participants enjoy fresh mountain air, escape from summer heat and city smog, and experience the unique camaraderie of Green Valley Lake's welcoming community.
