Ready, set, GO! Start the new year with fitness in mind. This Couch to 5K training plan is designed to get you ready to run the Santa Fe Springs Shamrock 5K on Saturday, March 12, 2022. The Couch to 5K training plan is a 5 week interval training program designed for beginner and intermediate levels. The group will meet every Sunday at Lake Center Athletic Park beginning on January 23. Additional registration required for the SFS 5K.
Workouts are not done at a constant pace – they involve a mixture of walking and running intervals. Interval training is awesome for this type of plan because the variety in effort forces your lungs and heart to adapt quicker, training them better than a constant-pace run would. Additionally, by adopting a run/walk method approach, you can go for longer than if the plan expected you to run constantly. Those walking breaks give you time to recover a little.
