October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month! Domestic Violence Awareness Month is a time for all of us to speak up about domestic violence, raise awareness, and support survivors of this devastating but common issue. This event was first observed in October 1981 as a national Day of Unity started by the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV).
Our 1st Annual 5k will focus on the silence that victims face in an abusive relationship. There are many reasons why victims stay in a domestic violence situation. Each survivor has their own story to tell, our role is support them in their time of need and connect them with services. YWCA of Genesee County is the sole provider of domestic violence services in Genesee County. Come join us to support survivors and break the silence! Let their voices be heard!
Please consider donating even if you are not planning to participate in the race. All proceeds go back into our Domestic Violence Crisis & Prevention Services Program to support survivors while navigating the system. Our case managers walk beside each and every individual that walks through our doors, assist them in gaining back their independence and break the cycle of violence! Your donation will assist survivors and their families find safety.
