LCRA Parks will be hosting an all-day program at Muleshoe Bend Recreation Area from 8AM to 5 PM on President’s Day, February 15th. We will explore the geology, flora, and fauna of the Texas Hill Country, discuss the history of President’s Day and our own President, Lyndon B. Johnson, and honor Lady Bird Johnson with a take-home project to Keep Texas Beautiful. This program will be held outside so come weather-ready with sturdy shoes, plenty of water, snacks, and a lunch depending on registration options. We offer this to family participation and have limited space for drop-offs for children aged 7-14. The morning option will include history of President’s Day and LBJ with the Lady Bird project, ending in a birding hike. The afternoon portion will include interpretive discussion on Hill Country formation, a history of pre-European settlement, and a hike with inquiry towards our sense of place. This co-mingled group is open for full-day registrations as well as selecting either the morning or afternoon session.
