Dear participant:
Thank you for your past support of the, three, Rotary Club of Brevard 5K and Fun runs.

We have had to change some of our plans and more changes may be required, but we are currently planning on at least 3 races in the late summer and early fall.
As you know, all of the monies go back in to the community in the form of support of events and programs – so it is a win-win for everyone. last year we provided over $30,000 in cash and in kind support and ran 1400 runners and walkers – a record for all events. This year we have already delivered in excess of 2,500 cards to the residents of all the care homes in the County, through difficult circumstances; funded and built a new Futsal soccer field for the kids at El Centro; supported the events of St Baldrick’s children’s cancer fund; begun many programs with the schools, including the purchase of a book bus for the summer and have embarked on supporting the continuation of the TRAIN programs after the closure of United Way in Transylvania. Been a busy virtual three months, for sure.
However due to the current social distancing restrictions and stay at home order, the White Squirrel Festival and our White Squirrel 5K and Fun Run have had to be postponed until the fall.
Our new White Squirrel 5K and Fun Run will be on August 22, 2020. This may not align with the White Squirrel Festival, run by the Heart of Brevard, itself, as we are limited by the availability of our timing company. All of the currently registered runners have agreed to move to the new date.
We will hold a separate “fun” event on the morning of White Squirrel Festival, if it does not occur on the 22nd. So we may have four events.
While this change, backloads our events into the second half of the year, Gordon and I expect a massive response to any outdoor event in the late Summer and fall – essentially from locals who have been confined to their homes.
Gloom will turn to glee in the fall and the races will be packed.
So our new race line-up is as follows:
1/ July 4 – Firecracker. We may run this virtually (every runner decides when they run and records their time). We would expect 300+ runners – the shirts will be collector’s items as they will include the “opening of the Depot” on them.
2/ Saturday, August 22 – White squirrel 5K run – Whatever the Heart of Brevard does, we have the timing group on this date. We expect 400+ runners and walkers.
3/ White squirrel festival fun event at 8.00 am. Egg and spoon race or White Squirrel and spoon race on the path – something fun.
4/ Saturday, October 31 – Flight of the Vampire – everyone will be really fed up by then and this will probably be an amazing number of people. We are planning on 600+ runners, we will put all of our efforts in to this event to make it a real celebration of the community – we will have the speed and agility course for the kids as well as other events.
We will be taking extra medical precautions at the race start point.
We want these to be community experiences in whatever form they may take.All races are open for sign-up on runsignup - so please go there and show your support. Our sponsors have held steady to this point, but a large sign-up will certainly help our cause with them.
The Depot will make a great backdrop for the events – it really is a magnificent building and a great finish post.
