The inaugural Mackenzie Half Marathon is a fantastic way to explore the stunning Fairlie basin, the Gateway to the Mackenzie. Due to the restrictions that Covid-19 is causing, we have tentatively postponed the event to 18 July 2020. As it will be colder weather at that time of year, we suggest you come well prepared. Next year we will be back to Easter weekend, where you'll be able to enjoy the Mackenzie Highland Show on Easter Monday.
Starting from the Village Green in the heart of Fairlie, the three running/walking events (5.5 km, 10 km and 21.1km) cater for all levels of ability and fitness.
Start times will be staggered throughout the morning to ensure entrants can support each other.
The Mackenzie Half Marathon, the headline event, kicks off at 10.00am for participants with an estimated race tome of over three hours, and 10.30am for everyone else. This exciting course includes river walkway tracks, river crossings and views that will take your breath away…. unless the hill climb does it beforehand!
The 10km ‘River Dip’ starts at 11.00am, followed by the 5.5km ‘Flat Jack’ at 11.15am.
Prizegiving on the village green after the last participant funishes - approx 2.30pm.
The Flat Jack is the only event that does not include a river crossing, but wet feet may still be on the menu if there has been a lot of rain as the river track can get quite puddly!
Afterwards why not stay awhile and enjoy some High Country hospitality! Grab a pie at the famous Fairlie Bakehouse, browse the shops with their fine array of goodies and clothes or maybe a game of mini golf. Tekapo is a 30 minute drive away if you want to soak your muscles in the hot pools. If you're still feeling energetic take a hike to the top of Mount John and enjoy stunning views of the mountains and lakes.
All races start and finish on the Village Green, on Main Street in the centre of Fairlie.
