The Event

Come join the second-ever Rescue Run at Kensington Metropark! The Rescue Run is a family-friendly run/walk event with games and activities for kids of all ages. The Rescue Run is a fundraiser to support Fundacion Rescate's mission to rescue abused children of the Ecuadorian Amazon by providing a safe haven -- the Casa Rescate foster home of Sucua, Ecuador. Sign up today and meet us at the East Boat Launch pavilion just inside the park gate at Exit 153 of I-96, Kent Lake Rd. (If you do not already have a park pass, you will be charged $10 for a daily vehicle pass at the gate. Make a day of it and enjoy this wonderful park with the family!) This event will have a large race display clock but no official race timing.

* Any participants who register after July 31 are not guaranteed a complimentary race t-shirt.

** All 1M Fun Run activities are designed for children and optional.

COVID-19 Update: The 2020 Rescue Run is currently still planned for August 8th. The Rescue Run Team will be proceeding with the event preparations and will re-evaluate the feasibility of the event date at the end of June. At that point, if a Rescue Run on August 8th no longer seems feasible, the plan is to reschedule the event to a later date. If the event is rescheduled, registered participants and sponsors will have an opportunity to be refunded or apply their registration to the rescheduled event.

The Mission

Local officials (of Sucua, Ecuador) say that 2-3 children a day need to be taken out of their home due to abuse, neglect, parenting and/or marital issues and currently have very few options of support. Our goal is to meet these children (ages 6-12) in their time of darkness and show them God’s great love by providing a temporary safe home, Casa Rescate, to serve not only their immediate physical, emotional and spiritual needs, but also those of their families.

The Casa Rescate foster home is currently preparing to open by completing the finishing touches on the foster home and fundraising one-year's worth of operation costs ($100K). The foster home includes living quarters for the children, a family counseling office, an outdoor kitchen for teaching and socializing, and ample outdoor recreation space.
